~ Do Not Forget The Radio ~

I write so much about the stage and screen I am apt to forget the radio scene. A little time I will employ recording the programmes I most enjoy. Top of The Form and My Music, The Archers and Down Your Way. I also listen to The World At One presented by Robin Day.

~Down Your Way ~

Charming Brian Johnston has a pleasant smiling face he enjoys meeting people and travelling from place to place. Inner cities, seaside towns over hills and dales, England, Scotland, Ireland and the principality of Wales. Residents are interviewed on their work and pleasure the general environment described in full measure. The harvest is gathered grain driers are going non stop he was informed the farmers had a bumper crop. They each chose a piece of music to round off the day an open invitation when Brian comes 'Down Your Way'. On Sunday evening and Monday morning it is relayed on the air, through this happy medium I follow him everywhere.

~ A Panel Game ~

'My Word', which word, this word or that word the panel can certainly tell I wonder if they are prompted as they always do so well. Antonia Frazer, Dilys Powell, Dennis Norden and Frank Muir radio personalities who  remain obscure. The most complex words in the dictionary they can define any unusual questions are recited line by line. When Frank or Dennis tell a story it is spontaneous or rehearsed if they go too far the bubble will burst. The calculator tots up the score two are bound to win outwardly I clap and cheer but I still have doubts within.

~ Over The Rainbow ~

Her spirit soared over the rainbow at the age of forty four, millions of admirers paid tribute by the score. I refer to Judy Garland a star of the first magnitude, winning an Oscar when her films were reviewed. A singer, dancer and actress excelling in all three yet lasting love and marriage was not her destiny. On the other side of the rainbow troubles melt away, when it appears at it's brightest I know she is happy and gay.

~ Mrs Mills ~

She was fat and jolly bearing no one any ills, there was magic in her fingers her name was Mrs Mills. Playing the piano in a gay and lively way happily reviving the gems of 'yesterday'. It starts my feet a tapping it sets my cheeks aglow soon I join in singing all the songs I know. 'Let Him Go Let Him Tarry', 'There's A Tavern In The Town', 'I Was Queen Victoria's Chambermaid' and 'Knees Up Mother Brown'. If you plan a Christmas party please take my advice select Mrs Mills recordings to add some extra spice.

~ The Black & White Minstrels ~

I have a lovely feeling I shout hip hip hooray the Minstrels are returning I cheer them on their way. They stay all the summer for a twice nightly show singing dixie melodies and all the songs we know. Billy Boy and Swanee River, John Peel and Home Sweet Home to captivate the audience wherever they may roam. Their great popularity has now reached it's height it cannot be disputed it is there in black and white.

~ Dame Edna Everage ~

Dame Edna Everage is a housewife from Australia or so she would have us believe, the grand coiffure and jewelled spectacles are meant to deceive. Dame Edna is a man in reality Barry Humphries is his name, through this great deception he rose to fame.  Attending a Royal Variety Show Dame Edna sat in a box reserved for the Queen Mother and was frantically ushered away.  She said “How was I to know why didn’t you say. To prove there is no ill feeling I will leave the Queen Mum a box of her favourite liqueurs complete with a straw, surely that’s not against the law”.
