~ Walk This Way ~
When Archie Pitt wrote the review 'Walk This Way' the four Stansfield's
did, Mumma said her family were going on stage and they obliged as she
bid. Yet in this modern age there are no young members on the stage,
perhaps one fine day the third generation will walk this way.

Gracie in 'Walk This Way' (1931)
|
~ On The Record ~
Gracie is singing the magic still clinging, much joy she is bringing
with songs bright and gay. Gracie's records are playing attention not
straying, her voice far outweighing the young stars of today.
~ A Life Story ~
In 1956 a producer hoped to film Gracie's life story and talks had
already begun, but she did not wish to go backward only forward that's
what kept her young. It would have been the film of the century there is
no doubt, but they could not leave the sad parts out. Gracie Fields had
her pride and always looked on the bright side.
~ Dear Gracie ~
When Gracie received letters from her fans she answered everyone, we had
conveyed our affection after all said and done. She sent out hundreds of
photographs and Christmas cards too, adding a little touch of humour as
she would always do. We were not divided by a stretch of sea, a strong
link anchored England to Capri. Through her writing she left part of
herself behind, because she was so generous and kind.
~ Two In One ~
Gracie was the nations idol a character set apart, with a kind nature
and a warm heart. She never spared her voice when asked for a song, to
disappoint the 'customers' would be entirely wrong. She was naturally
concerned how others were making out that's what life is all about.
Since her death many aspects the press are freeing, Gracie Fields was
not a myth created by Archie Pitt she was a down to earth human being.
~ The Most of Life ~
Life at best is very brief like the falling of a leaf, a remark I heard
in church one day when I chanced to pass that way. I make the most of
life in everything I do, my happiest times are the sunny hours I fondly
share with you. There is no dividing line we are one and the same, I am
known as Gracie Fields but we all have a name.
~ A Summer Tour ~
Flowers are blooming in cottage gardens and a country lane, a gay
profusion of colour to welcome you home again. A soft breeze caresses
sweet scented air, the perfume lingers everywhere. Songbirds are
trilling, crowds start milling as it will always be. North, South, East
and West unite in perfect harmony.
~ The Aza's ~
Bert Aza and Archie Pitt were brothers as different as chalk from
cheese, Archie was officious Bert aimed to please. He became Gracie's
agent for a great many years through his kind gentle nature she quickly
dried her tears. His wife Lilian was also a good friend, staunch and
reliable to the very end.
~ Hat Trick ~
Lilian your hat I wish to borrow, I'm opening a fete on the green
tomorrow. I have plenty of my own a real trend setter, but as strange as
it may seem your hats suit me better.
~ A Fine Crop ~
On centre stage she stands gesturing with her expressive hands. Singing
high and singing low, all the melodies we know. She sings modern songs
too, with a twinkle in her eyes of blue. Such a fine crop she yields
because her name is Gracie Fields.
~ A Safe Bet ~
I have five hundred songs in my repertoire yet fans keep asking for a
favoured few, such as 'Walter' and 'Biggest Aspidistra' they are
reluctant to let me sing anything new. If that is what they want that is
what they will get, after all old songs are a safe bet.
~ The Right Way ~
When thoughts start to stray I think only of the good, bad things I
ignore as I know I should. It is not very clever to harp on forever over
matters that wounded our pride, face the world with a smile making life
worthwhile and cast all your troubles aside.
